Choose a Different Ending

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Perhaps not the most light-hearted of posts today, but definitely very intriguing!

In light of the recent increase in knife crime in London, the Metropolitan Police has started using the Internets to help bring it down again (the main website being www.droptheweapons.org). One of the measures is creating an interactive Youtube video story, which starts with this one:

At the end of it, you’re presented with two choices, and clicking on one of them takes you to the next video, where you again have choices, etc. Think of those books where you can choose your own story, except in video form and slightly more grim (if you make the wrong choices, that is…)

It is pretty transparent and hardly a challenge to choose the “right” ending (Not wanting to ruin it for anyone, but it’s usually best not to take a knife in a video created by the Police…), but I still like it because it’s definitely a novel way of fighting crime, has surprisingly good acting and does hit home hard.

Try out the path that you’d choose, then play around with some alternatives to see what would happen if you’d gone the other way…
